Sadly I missed it. I am on a sunshine break in Tenerife as my pain is far less under this dry sun. My brilliant friend, Simon Wiggins very kindly passed my book on to her, as a token of our appreciation for visiting our beautiful county and supporting the event.
What has this to do with Loose Gravel and Motorcycles, you may ask?
Lili Myers is the widow of Hairy Biker, Dave Myers.
Dave 66, was one half of the TV duo along with Si King. He sadly died in February 2024 from cancer.
For me, Dave Myers was an inspiration. His ability to be witty, silly and incredibly professional, all at the same time, whilst producing cuisine of epic standards, in front of a camera as well! I still have anxiety cooking scrambled eggs for me and my wife!
And he can dance! Remember him on Strictly? 2013? Come on!
The connection to Loose Gravel is this. When my mate and I completed Route 66, we were running a day or two behind the Hairy Bikers’ own Route 66 adventure! Sadly, we never caught up with them, but there are restaurants and landmarks dotted along the Mother Road where you will see all our names on the same page in the visitor books.
Here is a pic of the Hairy Bikers on page 125 of my book. Isn’t it great?
The Three Amigos and Dollies are a charitable organisation in Pembrokeshire who organise a series of events over the year, but the two events they are best known for, are the Easter Egg Motorcycle Run and the Christmas Present Motorcycle Run. I have been privileged to have ridden in both. Literally, bikers as far as the eye can see who pay to participate and collect presents or eggs according to the occassion. The volunteers who make this happen work incredibly hard to make this happen, raising thousands for good causes whilst doing so. I really admire what these guys do and am privileged to be friends with many of them. Follow what they do on social media and please support if you can.
You can see Lili Myers on the motorcycle in the pic. She looks like she had a great time. I hope she enjoys my book!
Lili is also an author. You can buy her book Dave and Me: Life with and Without My Hairy Biker at all good book shops and the usual online shops
That’s it for now. I am travelling round the Grand Canyon ending up back on Route 66 in a couple of weeks, for more motorcycling adventures and stories. I will blog, as usual, and write about my last three American motorcycling adventures in a appetiser for book two. Wait! Have I given something away?
Please read my blog, follow me on social media, buy my book and, if you have time, follow my band, The Alibi when we play live and all usual social channels
